Quotations are hereby invited for the following: Rigging service provider to do rehanging of Whale Skeletons and Casts in the Whale Well at the Iziko South African Museum. Scope of Services: Contractors will be responsible for servicing all the winches that are suspending all the whale specimens with steel cables in the Whale Well at the Iziko South African Museum. There are x 3 whale skeletons and x 6 whale casts that need to be attended to: • Reposition and rehang Southern Right Whale skeleton; • Reposition Humpback Whale cast; • Service and Test all Winches. Approved service and tests must be provided; • Upon testing the winches contractors will have to lower whale specimens for a month to be cleaned by Iziko staff and then elevate them up again; • Train and certify six staff members to operate winches; • All trolleys in the ceiling need to be serviced; • Mini steel booms between steel pipe rails and brick wall for safer access between trolleys need to be installed; • Steel pins need to be installed on the trolleys that move above the ceiling of the Whale Well; • Braking hooks need to be installed on the brick wall where these trolleys (x10) are stationed; • Safety boards/platforms to be installed near all the x27 winches for safer access above ceiling; • After completion, please draw up a maintenance schedule for servicing of the trolleys and winches.
