Suitable and capable service providers are invited to bid for the establishment of a panel of service providers for the training of handymen and handywomen in various Circuit Management Centres for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education for a period of thirty-six (36) months. Scope: • There are approximately 3888 Handymen/Handywomen across the province i.e. in all the 12 districts; • Training will have to be facilitated face-to-face and will mainly be practical; • The service provider must provide all relevant tools and materials (such as safety gear and all other relevant tools) for practical training; • Training materials to be used will be based on the nationally approved documents e.g. Transfer of Skills document. Specifications: Handymen/Handywomen must be trained, in consultation with the department, at least on two (2) of the following skill sets: • Plumbing – Basic repairs to toilets, basins, urinals, drain piping and water piping including fittings; • Painting - Basic painting techniques; • Tiling – Basic tiling skills; • Glazing – Basic glazing replacement to windows; • Plastering – Basic plastering skills including cement mixing; • Carpentry – Basic tool skills and applications (tools to be provided by the schools from their Norms and Standards budget); • Electrical – Basic fault finding and multi-meter skills including replacement of globes and light fittings and repairs to socket outlets and light switches (multi-meters to be provided by the schools from their Norms and Standards budget). Training provider requirements: • Participants will have to be issued with certificate of competence at the conclusion of training.
